Voltra August 2026 Update

While many people were on vacation, we at Voltra were hard at work. August saw another huge wave of product development invested in the platform, the most in any month so far.

As we get closer to the fall trade show season, we are busy adding new capabilities that enhance our customer experience or find new ways to create value.

Something New

We’ve built and tested a new product we’re launching later this month, which made up a lot of the work in August. We can’t say much about it right now, but we’ll send out an announcement and invite all of our subscribers to try it out when we launch the beta.

We’re very excited about two more new products we’re launching later this year. They continue to deliver capabilities our customers are requesting, making it easier to manage their sites and improve profitability.

Product Release

A big chunk of August was dedicated to unannounced new products. But a lot more was done on the existing platform. Some highlights:

Energy Management

Control you can graduate into. Every site now moves through an explicit control ladder - off, shadow, supervised, closed loop - with promotion criteria and recorded overrides at each step. Software earns the right to act on your equipment; it does not assume it.

Fail-safe is configurable, and yours. Per-site fallback policies now govern exactly what happens on communications loss, stale telemetry, or an infeasible optimization: your policy, enforced by the platform, not a hardcoded default.

Smarter dispatch under real constraints. The optimizer now dispatches across multiple asset classes under site-level budgets, feeds live forecasts into its decisions, and treats HVAC with a real thermal model and a comfort objective, so flexibility never comes at the expense of the space.

Demand response, wired through. Utility and aggregator events (OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5) now flow through the same constraint and dispatch path as everything else, with 2030.5 DER envelope limits mapped directly into dispatch decisions. Demand response remains a managed offering - talk to us.

Charge Management

Online means online. Charger online status is now derived from the live websocket and heartbeat, not a registry lookup - so what the Console says matches what the charger is doing. A month-long reliability pass hardened connection handling across deploys and fixed remote-start edge cases around free-vend configurations.

Devices keep getting broader. New this month: Emporia Vue energy monitors and smart plugs join the device ecosystem, alongside SunSpec inverter model fixes and continued protocol work.

Platform

A commissioning workbench. Onboarding a device now comes with the tools a commissioning tech actually needs: browse the active register map with live values, pin and health-check the points that matter, run commissioning checks with snapshot reports, and read protocol errors decoded into plain language with remediation guidance - not hex codes.

Health checks you define. Devices now carry user-defined health checks with severity-mapped data quality, per-collector poll health, and hot reload - your definition of healthy, evaluated continuously.

Site networking, managed. Secure site tunnels now bind to sites with a lifecycle the platform tracks, a network checklist in the Console, and tunnel state projected into the site model.

The model governs itself. The site graph gained structural governance this month: connection rules that refuse an edge that would create an electrical ring, a health tab with a data-quality checklist and change history, and device changes syncing into the model automatically - with history preserved when hardware is decommissioned.

One live picture of the site. Site pages converged on status-first views: live readings with pinned points, an active-constraints view with forecasts, per-site maps, and diagnosis in sentences rather than raw numbers.

Trust infrastructure. Feature-flag delivery got a dedicated reliability pass (environment-scoped guards, kill-switch precedence, full audit trail), and platform identity moved further onto Voltra Resource Names end to end.

Event Update

Fall is a busy time in the energy industry. We decided to go to DCAC (the Data Center Austin Conference) last week to meet with the deeply experienced data center pros who go to the show. Its given us a lot to work on around the energy needs of data centers.

In mid-September we’ll be at the Forth Roadmap Conference, a gathering of policy executives from utilities, municipalities, auto oems, and the EV charging ecosystem. It is a great place to understand the expected changes in the policy world, including what is in the works for the post Nov 2028 environment.

In late September we’ll be at Yotta, one of the larger, more technologically-focused trade shows in the data center space. The team is there to make connections, meet with partners, and suss out the next areas of opportunity in data center energy management.

Looking at September

This month is about taking our newest product to market while continuing to build on our leading-edge energy platform. With all of the trade shows coming up, we'll be finalizing demos, building out walls of hardware for trade show booths, and expanding our ecosystem.

Looking at the Rest of 2026

We'll close out the year with a flurry of product announcements, partner announcements, trade show insights, and a party or two.

Plus we will start to share the success stories we've heard from customers and help enable new ones. We'll try not to bore everyone with all of the positive ROI.
